Baltimore, MD – Torrey Smith, Wide Receiver for the Baltimore Ravens and founder of the Torrey Smith Foundation, in torrey-15partnership with Scholastic Book Fairs, has transformed a room at Dickey Hill Elementary and Middle School into a literacy oasis.

“Torrey’s Reading Oasis” was created as part of the charitable programming of the Torrey Smith Foundation and it’s focus on improving literacy in area schools. The Reading Oasis will service 370 students at Dickey Hill Elementary, providing them access to 1,200 age-appropriate books and a comfortable place to read.

Smith and wife Chanel were on site for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and dedication and a brief statement to the student body. Following the ceremony, Smith accompanied a group on Honor Roll students to the Reading Oasis where he read-aloud one of the new books.

Smith also announced details about an upcoming Foundation Event called the Battle of the Beltway. As an added incentive to keep up the good work, the Torrey Smith Foundation is offering tickets to the All-Star Celebrity Basketball Game to students at Dickey Hill who meet their literary goals in the month of March.
