COLLEGE PARK, MD –
University of Maryland’s Comcast Center was buzzing on Saturday as 4,493 fans made their way to Baltimore Ravens’ Torrey Smith and Washington Redskins’ Ryan Kerrigan’s Battle of the Beltway. The Charity Basketball Game featured star-studded lineups on both sides of the court including:

Team Smith

Baltimore Ravens: Torrey Smith, Gerrard Sheppard, Haloti Ngata, Jacoby Jones, Marlon Brown, Terrell Suggs, Tyrod Taylor and Sam Koch; LaQuan Williams (free agent), Anthony Allen (Buffalo Bills), Joe Haden (Cleveland Browns), Tori Gurley (Cleveland Browns) and Anquan Boldin (San Francisco 49ers).

Team Kerrigan

Washington Redskins: Ryan Kerrigan, DeAngelo Hall, Niles Paul, Darryl Tapp, Kirk Cousins, Dezmon Briscoe, Fred Smoot (retired), Antwaan Randle El (retired), Darrell Green (Hall of Fame); Josh Morgan (free agent), Greg Hardy (Carolina Panthers), Greg Little (Cleveland Browns), T.Y. Hilton (Indianapolis Colts), AJ Francis, (Miami Dolphins), Nate Prater and entertainers Big Tigger, Wale and Mister V-I-C.

With 2 seconds left in overtime, Jones scored the game-winning basket giving the Ravens a 63-61 victory. Gurley and Hall were named Battle of the Beltway MVPs.

“The Ravens might have edged us out in the end,” said Kerrigan, “but I really feel like we’re both the winners today. The reason that both our foundations exist is because of everyone here tonight.”

Fans enjoyed football tosses, face painting, a photo booth (gallery here), on-court contests, dance performances and a live DJ throughout the game. Among the fans were 500 local children, whose admission was made possible by various game sponsors*. At halftime fans and athletes alike took a break from the dual to honor Smith’s late brother, Tevin Jones.

“This is the first year that the Torrey Smith Foundation is able to award 4 deserving high school seniors scholarships from the Tevin Jones Fund,” said Smith. “Even though my brother is gone, this is an amazing way for his name to live on.” Winners of the scholarship will be awarded $5,000 each, distributed over the next four years to help aid the cost of higher education.

The Battle of the Beltway raised almost $100,000. These proceeds will benefit both The Torrey Smith Foundation and the Ryan Kerrigan Blitz for the Better Foundation and their missions to help children up and down the Beltway.

*The Battle of the Beltway was made possible by generous corporate sponsors including: Northwestern Mutual, Clear Channel Radio, Buck Distributing, Rosenhaus Sports, Beam, Constellation Brands, Grand Hyatt Washington, Hyatt Regency Washington, MCS Services, Chesapeake Public Strategies, Pepsi and Metro PCS.
