FRIDAY, MAY 22, 2015: SAN FRANCISCO 49ers’ TORREY SMITH AND THE PwC CHARITABLE FOUNDATION, INC. DEDICATE READING OASIS TO STUDENTS AT GARDENVILLE ELEMENTARY
WHAT: Torrey Smith, wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers and founder of the Torrey Smith Foundation, has transformed a room at Gardenville Elementary into a literacy oasis through grants from the PwC Charitable Foundation, Inc., The Home Depot Foundation and Walmart.
Torrey’s Reading Oasis was created as part of the charitable programming of the Torrey Smith Foundation and its focus on improving literacy in area schools. The Reading Oasis, made possible through grants from the PwC Charitable Foundation, The Home Depot Foundation and Walmart, will service 394 students at Gardenville Elementary and provide them access to over 1,200 age-appropriate books, electronic readers, and a comfortable and safe place to read. Volunteers from the community were on hand over the weekend and all week to transform the room.
Smith and representatives from PwC Charitable Foundation, Inc., The Home Depot Foundation, Walmart and Scholastic will be on site for a ribbon cutting ceremony. Following the ceremony, Smith will spend time with students.
