Press Release | Torrey Smith And The PWC Charitable Foundation, Inc. Dedicate Reading Oasis To Students


Torrey Smith, wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers and founder of the Torrey Smith Foundation, and his wife Chanel, have transformed a room at Friendship Preparatory Academy at Calverton into a literacy oasis in partnership with The PwC Charitable Foundation, Inc., The Home Depot Foundation, Scholastic Book Fairs, Papa John’s International, Inc., PepsiCo, and Walmart.

Torrey’s Reading Oasis was created as part of the charitable programming of the Torrey Smith Foundation and its focus on improving literacy in area schools. The Reading Oasis will serve all 690 students at the school site and provide them access to over 1,200 age-appropriate books and a comfortable and safe place to read. Volunteers from PepsiCo were on hand to help transform the room.

The Smith family and representatives from PwC Charitable Foundation, Inc., Papa John’s International, Inc., PepsiCo, Scholastic Book Fairs, and Walmart will be on site for a ribbon cutting ceremony. Smith, currently on his bye week, will spend time with students throughout the event.
