Baltimore, MD – Torrey Smith of the Baltimore Ravens was at Benjamin Franklin High School Monday morning to launch his Foundation’s second Reading Room. In partnership with the PwC Charitable Foundation, Inc. The Torrey Smith Foundation decorated and stocked a room at Ben Franklin with over 700 age-appropriate books, electronic readers, and a comfortable place to read. The room will service 447 students.

Smith was on site for the ribbon cutting with wife Chanel and 5 month old son, Torrey Jeremiah.  Smith also congratulated six individual students on their recognition in Torrey’s Reading Ring of Honor for achievements in reading and Torrey’s Community Service Ring of Honor for achievements in community volunteerism.

“I think it’s really important to remind these students about education,” said Smith.  “That’s all they can control. They can’t control where they live or their family situation, but they can decide to make school a priority.”

Smith launched his first reading oasis at Dickey Hill Elementary in February and has plans to launch a third next spring.

The Foundation will host it’s Annual Celebrity Waiter Night Fundraiser November 18th at Ruth’s Chris’ Steakhouse + Havana Club on Water Street. For information on these and other programs, or to make donations, please visit www.TorreySmith.org.
