BALTIMORE —While many children aren’t overly happy about the first day of school, many of them were all smiles about it Sunday in Randallstown.
Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith made an appearance at the town Walmart to help collect school supplies for area elementary schools.
The Torrey Smith Foundation hosted the back-to-school drive, which collected kits full of goodies for five Baltimore-area schools.
“Rather than giving away book bags and gifts to a select group of kids, we’re going to give the items donated directly to the schools, and then they’ll be able to give them to the kids who truly need it,” Smith told 11 News of how the drive works.
Smith said he feels the drive helps take pressure off parents to collect supplies, especially those who might be struggling.
Walmart has also agreed to match donations up to $15,000.
